TRACE GASSES M/M
Since AURA/OMI ozone profiles are not yet available
for analysis, we focus on AURA/TES ozone data. The coincidences between
AURA/TES ozone measurements (Global Survey mode) and ozonesondes are
identified for Huntsville, AL during AURA/TES operating period. The
algorithm can be applied to other ozonesonde stations or other kinds
of ozonesonde measurements (i.e., MOZAIC ozone, Dobson and Brewer measurements),
to identify coincidence pairs for AURA/TES validation purpose. Ozonesonde
profiles are convolved with AURA/TES operator (averaging kernel and
a priori constraint vector) to account for AURA/TES measurement sensitivity
and vertical resolution. The resulting AURA/TES – sonde difference
can be used to assess systematic errors in the AURA/TES calibration
and retrieval process. Monthly mean ozone is obtained for Aug. 2006,
and will be applied as model boundary and initial conditions for studying
the impact of lightning-produced NOx on upper tropospheric ozone concentration.
In the future, we plan to apply TES ozone retrieval
as boundary and initial conditions to CMAQ model to study the possible
influence of lightning NOx on upper tropospheric ozone maximum that occurred
at Huntsville, AL during Aug. 2006 and compare with IONS06 ozonesonde
measurements. MetOp/GOME-2 is going to provide ozone, NO2, SO2, HCHO
retrievals starting from Oct. 2006, and we can use these retrievals to
improve the capacity of CMAQ model in simulating tropospheric ozone concentration
and other air quality related trace gases.
