SWIRLL - Severe Weather Institute - Radar & Lightning laboratory
Located on the West side of The University of Alabama In Huntsville campus, SWIRLL is a core research facility that houses infrastructure and UAH faculty, staff, and students who are involved in research on severe and hazardous weather, boundary layer meteorology, lightning, radar, and air quality.
Data
Our SWIRLL facility has an array of surface and profiling instruments. Live data published on our site is typically gathered 24/7. We are working on getting live data posted during active deployments from all platforms.
Platforms
SWIRLL houses several profiling platforms and a dual-polarization mobile Doppler radar designed to study severe and hazardous weather. Each platform is operated by our very own students which helps facilitate hands-on learning in and outside the classroom.
About Us
Learn about the many features our facility offers. From our operations center, to our large garage for platform storage and maintenance, our facility features many unique spaces.
