UAH students plan Weather Fest

Two Weather Channel celebrities, including severe weather expert Dr. Greg Forbes, headline the 2011 Rocket City Weather Fest this Saturday at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Children's activities will include performances by the Weather Channel's Nick Walker, also known as the singing weather dude. Walker will also give a copy of his CD, "Don't Get Scared, Just Get Prepared," to everyone who makes a $20 or more donation to the North Alabama Red Cross tornado relief fund.
Weather Fest is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at UAHuntsville's Shelby Center and admission is free.
Forbes will give a talk comparing the April 27 tornado outbreak with the deadly 1974 tornadoes. He will also talk about the development and meaning of the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale that is used to measure the power of individual tornadoes.
Other activities include a SKYWARN weather spotter training course given by the National Weather Service, seminars on the tornado outbreak, weather research and much more.
