UAH’s graduate program in Earth System Science (ESS) is beginning a new internship program designed to help Masters’ level students gain experience in GIS, remote sensing, and geospatial reasoning. The internship recognizes academic achievements of outstanding students and helps to encourage the continued success of students pursuing graduate level research in GIS and remote sensing for Earth sciences. The student selected for this internship will work on GIS/Remote Sensing-related research projects with faculty members, researchers and decision makers in the Earth System Science Program over the course of a year. The MCIP (~$10,000) is a 12-month internship, (starting mid-August and paid bi-weekly), that will be granted to a student that has been accepted to the Masters’ program in ESS. Students from the ESS Masters’ program or prospective students to the program are encouraged to apply.
The student will have demonstrated
proficiency in geospatial science and the potential to contribute to the
field of applied GIS in the Earth sciences. Solid research, excellent
writing ability, and organizational skills are a must for this internship.
Bachelor's Degree in geography, geology, Earth science or other related
Science fields or with coursework related to Earth science, political
science, and computer science are a plus. Current GRA/GTA's in the ESS
Program are not eligible for the MCIP internship. During the internship, students must be enrolled in at least 6 approved graduate credit hours during each fall and spring semester.
