Awards


* Brian Huang, PhD student in the Department of Atmospheric Science (advisor, Professor Newchurch) has been given the award for the Best Technical Content presentation from the 18th Joint Conference on the Applications of Air Pollution Meteorology at the recently concluded American Meteorological Society in Atlanta. His paper wass titled, ”A sensitivity study of ozone entrainment flux on boundary layer micrometeorology”. Congratulations Brian!
* Dr. Nair, Assistant Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Science has been awarded the NSF CAREER grant.
* Nan Feng, an atmospheric science graduate student at UAHuntsville, has won a prestigious NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship (NESSF) for the 2013-'14 academic year.
* Dr. Kevin Knupp, professor of atmospheric science, received the UAHuntsville Distinguished Research Award in May, 2013.
* Emily Foshee, an MS student in atmospheric science, and Eric Anderson, an MS student in Earth system science, were named the top graduate research assistants in UAH's College of Science. Elinor Crook was the top undergraduate student in Earth system science for the 2012-13 academic year.
* Dr. Kevin Knupp, professor of atmospheric science, received the 2013 College of Science Dean's Service Award, and Dr. Tom Sever, a professor in atmospheric science, won the College of Science Teaching Excellence Award.
* Dr. Dick McNider will receive the award for "Outstanding contribution to the advance of applied meteorology" from the American Meteorological Society at its annual conference in January 2013.
* Foshee wins NASA fellowship. Emily Foshee, a student in UAHuntsville's atmospheric science master's degree program, has won a NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship for the 2012-13 school year.
* Dr. John Christy (2012) is the winner of two major UAHuntsville awards: UAHuntsville Distinguished Research Award and UAHuntsville College of Science Outstanding Faculty Award

* Dr. John Christy wins the Hermann Oberth Award for outstanding individual scientific achievement.
* 2010 - Dr. Kevin Knupp, a professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, was recently named a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society. This is a tremendous honor, as only 1 out of every 500 AMS members is elected to this position every year. Kevin graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. degree in meteorology, and received his Ph. D. from Colorado State in 1985.
* 2010 - Chris Schultz selected for NCAR's Graduate Student Visitor Program. Congratulations to Chris Schultz, PhD student in the Atmospheric Science department at UAHuntsville for his selection to NCAR's Graduate Student Visitor Program.
* 2006 - Dr. John Mecikalski, NASA Group Achievement Award, Earth Science Applications Team. In recognition of exceptional achievement in developing the highly successful air quality, aviation weather, and energy management applications for the earth science enterprise.
* 2006 - Dr. John Mecikalski, NASA Aviation Safety and Security Program award for outstanding contributions to aviation weather safety research and development;
